“For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.”
– Hebrews 11:10

Dear Friends, I pray that this email finds you well.  The quote above comes from our theme for this year’s Summer Bible Club.  I’m excited to think of all the fun ways we will teach this central message of hope to the kids this year, but I must confess that it is something that I need to be reminded of even as I type this email.  Summertime in DC can be relentless and it’s easy to be worn down by life, work, and even ministry – but Praise God; He’s preparing a place for us that is beyond what we could imagine where all will be made right!

Praise God for His Mercy!

The Young Center: Each month the diaconate collects a mercy offering.  The purpose of this offering is to support those both within GMH and beyond who are in distress or crisis.  After much prayer and conversation with several of our members, we announced that 100% of August’s mercy offering would be donated to the Young Center, a non-profit organization that is providing pro bono legal services to unaccompanied minors and children separated from their parents, advocating within the legal system for best interest of the child. We also announced that we would match the funds from this month’s offering.  Praise God that through your generosity we were able to donate a total of $2,462.00 to this organization. If you are interested in volunteering, you can find out more information here.

Growing in the Grace of Giving...

Summer Bible Club: As mentioned above, SBC 2018 is here!  We will be meeting in the evenings from August 13-16 at Girard St. Park between 6:00pm and 7:30pm and on August 18th as we attend the ball game at National’s Park.  It’s not too late to help out!  We still need volunteers to help with outreach (spreading the word), activities, and logistical help for the Ball Game.  Please email deeks@gracemeridianhill.org to let us know if you could come out and support one or several of the days, or if you could help out behind the scenes!

ESL Ministry: We will be kicking off our first ever ESL Ministry with conversational English classes beginning this  fall!  If you have a heart to serve immigrant populations though relationship building and dialogue – this is for you! No experience is needed to volunteer.  The planning meeting will be on 8/26 immediately after service for all who are interested. Please contact the diaconate at the email above if you would like more information.

Need Help? Finally, if you find yourself in a season where you need help (material or otherwise), the diaconate is here to support you.  Please always feel free to approach us on Sunday or email us at deeks@gracemeridanhill.org.

Grace & peace to you all,

Marcus, with the GMH Diaconate.
